Mondi Group today published its sustainable development report for 2014, together with its Integrated report and financial statements 2014 and its sustainable development publication entitled "Working together for a sustainable future 2014."

With its range of sustainable development publications catering to the needs of diverse audiences, Mondi demonstrates its commitment to working together and being part of the solution to sustainability challenges.

Mondi is an international packaging and paper Group with a dual listed company structure, around 25,000 employees, and operations across more than 30 countries. This year, Mondi’s sustainable development reporting has been created in two parts, both accessible via www.mondigroup.com/reports14

  • The online Sustainable development report 2014 is a 113 page interactive PDF offering in-depth disclosure on sustainability performance, prepared according to GRI G3 standards (to level B+) and third party assured for selected key performance indicators
  • Working together for a sustainable future 2014 is a 24 page snapshot of Mondi’s approach to sustainability, designed for generalist audiences

A year of compelling performance

The online Sustainable development report provides an overview of Mondi’s sustainability performance and approach, and offers detailed disclosures for the last five years. Some of its key achievements for 2014 include:

  • 100% of Mondi’s owned and leased land is FSC®-certified
  • 66% of its wood purchased in 2014 came from Chain-of-Custody certified sources
  • 29% reduction of carbon emissions per tonne of saleable production in the past ten years
  • All Mondi’s forestry operations and largest pulp and paper mills have community engagement plans in place
  • Zero fatalities in 2014
  • Three year global partnership signed with WWF International, the world’s largest conservation organisation
  • Invested around €61 million in social investments since 2010 (€ 7 million in 2014).

A year of more succinct messaging

One of the big focuses for this year’s reporting process was sharing Mondi’s sustainable development journey in a more compelling yet succinct way. One of the key pieces of communication – which appears in both the online Sustainable development report and the publication – is a clear, straightforward representation of the business model. The business model now reflects the diverse inputs and outputs of the organisation.

A year of increased focus on engagement

This year’s suite of reports will be launched throughout the business with an engagement toolkit for leaders and marketing teams to share with internal and external audiences. As Neil Burns, Group head of sustainable development at Mondi, comments in the report:
“Our challenge this year has been to build stronger internal relationships as we begin a conversation that will lead to our next set of sustainable development commitments. We’ve got to talk about sustainability in terms the people in our businesses understand – by focusing on the local solutions they can deliver to help address the big picture challenges we face.”
