The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (US SIF), the national non-profit membership association for the sustainable and responsible investment industry, has announced that Michelle Clayman, managing partner and chief investment officer of New Amsterdam Partners, is the newest member of the US SIF board of directors.

Klara Helstad is the new sustainability director at Swedish forestry co-operative Södra and has joined the group executive team. Helstad, a doctor of forestry, has been with Södra since 2005, and was previously its environmental and quality manager.

New York Life has hired Joanne Rodgers as chief diversity officer. Rodgers, who is now responsible for developing and executing the company’s diversity strategy, has worked for New York Life since 1994. Prior to that she worked for the National Association of Securities Dealers and Shearson Lehman Brothers.

Australian Ethical Investment has appointed lawyer and corporate adviser, Louise Herron, as a director. Herron is currently executive director of Ironbark Group, which she co-founded in 2007. She has worked as a corporate adviser with Wentworth & Associates, Macquarie Bank, Carnegie Wylie and has advised a range of companies across a variety of industries.

Jean-Marie Sander, chairman of Crédit Agricole SA, has been appointed chairman of the board of the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation. The foundation was established in 2008 with Muhammad Yunus, winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize and founder of Grameen Bank.

Allan Zhang, a specialist in China climate change policy and sustainable business, has joined PwC’s UK sustainability and climate change team. Zhang was previously the leader of the PwC sustainability and climate change team in Beijing.

Lama Awwad has joined Maximus Air Cargo as CSR manager. She previously worked at the Jordanian Royal Court.

Appointment of the moth

Global thinktank the World Resources Institute has named Dr Andrew Steer as its next president. Steer is currently serving as the special envoy for climate change at the World Bank, where he helps guide the Bank group’s climate change activities in over 130 countries. He also co-chairs the strategic climate fund and serves on UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon’s high level group on sustainable energy for all. From 2007 to 2010, he was director general for policy and research at the UK’s Department for International Development.

Non-profit organization the Green Rating Alliance has elected Pieter Hendrikse as chairman for 2012. Hendrikse, who is CEO of CBRE Global Investors EMEA, succeeds Pierre Vaquier.

US grocery retailer Kroger has announced that Suzanne Lindsay has joined the company as director of sustainability. Lindsay will direct Kroger’s internal sustainability initiatives and will lead the company’s sustainability leadership team. She previously created and led sustainability initiatives at PetSmart, Inc.

Stephen John has joined national energy company TAQA with responsibility for managing the group’s approach to sustainable development. Based in Abu Dhabi, John will be a member of the corporate communications team and will work closely across a number of departments at corporate and regional level to support TAQA’s sustainable development goals. John previously worked at ArcelorMittal and also chaired the World Steel Association’s Sustainability Expert group for nearly two years.  

Gatwick Airport has appointed James Colman as corporate affairs and sustainability director. Colman will lead a team of 22 people spanning media and PR, public affairs, internal communications, airport communications and corporate responsibility. Colman’s most recent position was as head of communications for the B2B side of British Gas. 

Colman says: “Gatwick Airport is setting a new benchmark for what passengers and airlines should expect from a leading airport, with some very exciting plans for the future. That is why I am delighted to be joining Gatwick, and leading its award-winning communications team at such a critical and exciting time.”  

Françoise Grumberg has been appointed to lead 
global initiatives on responsible business at Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT). Grumberg will guide CWT globally on sustainability issues, while designing and implementing related strategies and programs. Previously, she spent eight years as CSR director for the Alcatel-Lucent Group.

James Bell is the new environmental consultant at furniture technology centre FIRA International. Bell will advise the furniture industry on environmental and sustainability issues, and will be managing the furniture industry sustainability programme. He has previously worked at the Environment Agency and at UKDN Waterflow.

Thorsten Strauss, Bertelsmann AG’s former head of corporate communications, has been appointed Deutsche Bank’s new global head of communications and CSR.

Betsy Reed has joined sustainability charity Forum for the Future as head of communications and marketing. Reed’s role will be to drive the charity’s ambition to globalise the Forum brand and communicate its research. Before joining Forum for the Future, Reed worked as head of campaigns at Zero Waste Scotland and prior to that, was with the Scottish Fair Trade Forum.
