Diageo has appointed Carolyn Panzer as corporate social responsibility director, expanding her former remit as alcohol and responsibility director to cover all areas of the drinks company’s corporate responsibility work.

Marks & Spencer has appointed Georgina Stevens as fair partner manager for its Plan A initiative. Stevens leaves Virgin Atlantic where she was a founding member of the sustainability department and headed the community investment team.

Barclays’ former head of public affairs, Wendy Deller, has established her own public policy and corporate responsibility consultancy, Policy Profile. She was most recently director of public policy and sustainability in Barclays’ global retail and commercial banking arm.

The World Resources Institute, a US environmental thinktank, has appointed Jennifer L Morgan as director of its climate and energy programme. Morgan joins from Third Generation Environmentalism a London-based thinktank. She succeeds Jonathan Pershing, now the deputy special envoy for climate change under US secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

The Global Reporting Initiative has appointed Sean Gilbert as its representative in China. He will be responsible for developing GRI's presence in the country. Before joining GRI, Gilbert also worked as an independent sustainability consultant to investor, non-profit and business organisations.

The UK Sustainable Development Commission has appointed Will Day as its new chairman. He replaces Jonathon Porritt, the environmentalist, who stood down on July 27. Day is a former chief executive of Care International, the development campaign group, and external adviser to the BBC corporate responsibility board.

Origin, a consultancy, has appointed Ed Blamey to the new role of associate sustainability director. Blamey joins from Interface Flor, the carpet manufacturer, where he spent four years as European sustainability director.

Independent planning consultancy DPP has appointed Mary Rawlinson as senior sustainability consultant.

Hotel booking agency BSI has appointed Steve Savage as head of business development to help public sector clients manage corporate responsibility and traveller security issues.

Ethical Corporation’s John Russell is stepping down after two years as managing editor and four years at the magazine. He has been appointed to HSBC’s internal communications team, based at the bank’s UK headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.
